CUPE 2081 – Election Notice

Greeting CUPE 2081 Members:

Some of you may have heard that the CUPE 2081 Annual General Meeting is taking place on March 15 at 5pm in Fisher 202. What you may not know is that in addition to having refreshments, we will also be having some exhilarating elections!!

If you are interested in serving in one of the interesting and exciting positions on the 2081 Executive, please refer to the CUPE Local 2081 By-Laws for the position descriptions and the requirements to hold office. I should note that as a general requirement, one must normally have attended three union meetings in the past year to be eligible for an Executive position.  You can find the By-Laws here.

Executive Positions Up For Election:
President (2 Year term) – incumbent Tony Nelson has announced that he is not seeking re-election
Correspondence Secretary (2 Year term) – currently vacant
Communications Officer (2 Year term) – incumbent Earle Thompson is running for another term
Education Coordinator (2 Year term) – incumbent Erynne Grant  is running for another term
Health & Safety Coordinator (2 Year term) – incumbent Ida Colantonio is running  for another term
2 Members-at-Large (1 Year term) – incumbents Ranbir Prihar and Gulcan Barclay are running for another term
Lansdowne Campus Steward (2 Year term) – incumbent Shane Johnson is running for another term
Interurban Campus Steward ( 2 Year term) – currently vacant

Other Elected Positions:
1 Trustee (3 Year term) – incumbent Patrice Palmerino is not running for re-election
2 Health & Safety Committee reps (1 Year term) – current reps are Myra Grypuik and Shirley Wendland
5 Victoria Labour Council reps (1 Year term) – all five positions are up for election
9 Vancouver Island District Council reps (1 Year term) – all nine positions are up for election

Staff Development News

Your Union has tried unsuccessfully to get the employer to amend the CUPE Staff Development Guidelines pertaining to Fiscal Year End deadlines.

It is with disappointment we now inform you that any applications submitted for any and all activities from the previous fiscal year (April 01, 2014 – March 31, 2015) will not be reimbursed. Official emails formally denying applications will be sent in the days to come.

Please make sure your applications and receipts are submitted in a timely manner in order to avoid any disappointment.

Lunchtime General Meeting – video conference Feb 26

The next general meeting is 12:05-12:55pm on February 26, in Wilna Thomas 226 (Lansdowne) and CC 320/321 (Interurban).

Bring a fellow worker – Your opinion matters, and your vote counts. Decisions are made by those who attend.

SD application reviews caught up

The SD application review process is now caught up. We apologize for the delay but appreciate your patience. Remember: The fiscal year end is quickly approaching. Please submit for activities from April 1, 2015-March 31, 2016 as soon as possible!

Don’t miss out – get your requests in now if your activity starts before March 31, 2016. The new fiscal year will begin April 1, 2016.

Special General Meeting postponed from Jan 22 to Jan 29

Due to lack of availability of rooms that have video conferencing capabilities, the Special General Meeting scheduled for this Friday, January 22 from 11:45-12:50 has been moved until next Friday, January 29 from 11-45-12:50. The agenda will be circulated and posted 48 hours prior to the meeting.

If leave has been booked for you to attend, please email the office so that your leave can be amended.
